Ventons Devon Cyder
Devon
Devon Cyder has been made in the traditional way from our Devon orchards for the past 100 years that we know of. Looking at old maps of the local area it's probably much longer than that. Our orchards are well balanced and were well thought out by the old school cider makers who planted them all those years ago. Their knowledge was rarely documented but their legacy lives on in the trees we harvest and the new trees we graft from them.
Our methods of producing cider are as traditional as they get in Devon. Devon cider apples, natural yeast from the apples and orchards, a crusher, a twin screw oak press, barley straw and oak barrels are all still used, just as they did when cider was made to supply farms and their workers over the centuries. Nowadays, due to demand and increased production, a hydraulic press, washer elevator mill and large holding tanks are also used but the traditional approach and still applies.
