John and Ruth own the brewery jointly. John has worked in the brewing industry for most of his working life and set up Mighty Oak after being made redundant from Inde Coope Romford in 1993. He originally trained as an engineer and subsequently went on to take his brewing qualifications. Ruth has a background in management accounts and sales and together they have made a formidable team.
We have over 20 years experience of brewing cask ale, and a wealth of national awards from CAMRA: Supreme Champion Beer of Britain, Champion Mild of Britain (twice) and Champion Golden Ale of Britain to name but a few!
We are located in the picturesque east coast town of Maldon, home the the Thames barge and Maldon Sea Salt, (a key ingredient in our Wilde Samphire gin) and can be found brewing in a Victorian Goods Shed in the old West Station Yard. We also have our own Tap Room on the High Street in Maldon. We deliver over 95% of our cask ale directly to our customers but are now making our beers available on a national basis in key keg and bottle.
