Dig Brew is a beer production company founded by Oliver Webb in 2017 with a mission to change the perception of what beer can mean for a group of graduating art students in relation to its history, science, audience, market and magic. Following a research trip to New York the decision was taken to get to work professionalising home brew practises learned in art school, work voluntarily in breweries throughout the West Midlands and redevelop an old handle factory in the forgotten area of Digbeth in Birmingham, UK.
Dig Brew produced its first beer in 2017, with Kieran Shaw joining as artist in residence in 2018, Andrew Whyte took over as head brewer from Oliver in 2019 and together Dig Brew Co. has been on a journey of experimentation, collaboration and beer-to-beer improvement ever since.
Dig Brew is now working on a complete redevelopment of the building, rethinking its role in the wider community of Birmingham and researching a collaborative, operatic project with international opera company Infinite Opera called ‘Sales’.
