Devassa started life in 2001 in Rio de Janeiro when two friends, Marcelo Rio and Cello Macedo decided that they wanted to brew a beer with Brazilian Soul and European quality.
They opened their first brew pub in the heart of the Leblon area of the Rio de Janeiro city in early 2002, serving their Tropical Lager. The all malt brew was a huge hit with customers and the beer’s popularity has grown ever since.
